Where are they from?
The Black Phantom Tetra originates from the Sao francisco River in Eastern Brazil.

How many can I keep?
Best kept in groups.

What are the ideal water conditions?
Ideal conditions are slightly acidic to neautral. Will tolerate a wide range of temperatures. In the wild it is found in shady streams so does best in a well planted tank with some open areas and a gentle water flow. All fish available are farm bred and will adapt to a wide range of water parameters.

What do you feed them?
They are omnivores and will eat a variety of foods. Feed a varied diet of frozen, freeze dried and flake foods.

How compatible is it with other fish?
This peaceful fish should be housed with non aggressive tank mates.

How do you breed them?
The male has a larger dorsal fin and is dark grey with black fins. Given a varied diet they will come into breeding condition. The will breed if kept in soft acidic conditions with subdued lighting. Feed fry on infusoria and newly hatched brine shrimp.
