Where are they from?
As many of this species available are wild caught from the Amazon basin in Peru and Western Brazil, it is better to wait until your tank is mature before adding them.

How many can I keep?
A shoaling fish best kept in a group of 4 or more.

What are the ideal water conditions?
Ideal water conditions are slightly acidic to neutral soft water but they will adapt to a wide range of water parameters. Temperature 22-28°c. PH 6 - 7.5 Take care over water quality, carry out regular water changes to avoid any build up of nitrates.

What do you feed them?
Bleeding Heart Tetra are omnivores and will eat a variety of foods. Feed a varied diet of frozen, freeze dried and flake foods.

How compatible is it with other fish?
This brightly coloured tetra with its distinctive red heart is ideal for a peaceful community tank. See tank mates.

How do you breed them?
Females are a lighter colour and have shorter fins. They scatter adhesive eggs but they are not easy to spawn.
