What are the ideal water conditions?
Ideal water conditions are slightly acidic to neutral soft water. Temperature 24-27°c. PH 5.5 - 7.5
What do you feed them?
They are omnivores and will eat a variety of foods. Feed a varied diet of frozen, freeze dried and flake foods.
How compatible is it with other fish?
A peaceful community fish.
How do you breed them?
Females are less colourful and have deeper bodies. The males adipose fin is blue while the females are red.
Prepare a breeding tank with soft acidic water, fine leaved plants or spawning mops and condition the males and females separately. When the females are full of eggs, select the plumpest female and most colourful male and place them in the breeding tank in the evening. Spawning should happen the next morning. Then remove the fish before they can eat the eggs and the fry should hatch in 20-48 hours. Feed with infusoria at first and then newly hatched brineshrimp.
