As with other plecos it is well known for it’s algae eating. It will eat other foods but will spend most of it’s time grazing on the algae throughout the tank including the glass. While considered a herbivore, in the aquarium they will eat any food that drops to the bottom of the tank.

How do you breed them?
The fleshy tentacles on the head of the male get longer as they mature. provide a tank with soft acidic water Ph 6-7. Place in the tank some PVC pipe and driftwood. When spawning has taken place the male will fan and protect the eggs. When the eggs hatch for the first few days the egg sac will feed them. You should then add a piece of romaine lettace, after washing with hot water, and as the fry grow you can feed with newly hatched brineshrimp.
