How hard are they to keep?
We would class this as a moderate care level.

What is its maximum size?
15cm.

Where are they from?
The Duboisi Tropheus originates from the rocky waters of Lake Tanganyika. Juveniles are a striking black with white spots, the adult is black with a yellow band.

How many can I keep?
They are aggressive to their own kind and similar species. Provide plenty of rocks for hiding places and keep in large numbers, 10 should be the minimum number. Intentional overcrowding reduces the natural aggression. Intentional overcrowding will require extra filtration and regular partial water changes.

What are the ideal water conditions?
Ideal water conditions are moderately hard with a temperature of 25-28°c. PH 8-9.

What do you feed them?
Feed plenty of algae based foods including flake and pellets. They are a algae, phyto-plankton and plant eater so must have a vegetable based diet.

How compatible is it with other fish?
They are aggressive to their own kind and similar species.

How do you breed them?
Not easy to breed in the aquarium. As with other Tanganyika Cichlids they are mouth brooders, The female will carry eggs for approximately 30 days. After this time the female looks after the young, she will feed providing nourishment for herself and her brood. She will take them into her mouth at night and any time there is danger.
