Where are they from?
The Electric Blue Johanni originates from Lake Malawi.

What are the ideal water conditions?
Ideal water conditions are moderately hard with a temperature of 25-30°c. PH 7.6-8.2.

What do you feed them?
Feed a vegetable rich diet of algae and flake food, periodically feed brine shrimp and meaty foods.

How compatible is it with other fish?
As with other Malawi Cichlids it is important to provide plenty of rocks for hiding places. Males are aggressive and territorial.

How do you breed them?
Males are blue-black with bright blue stripes, females are yellow-orange in colour.
A maternal mouth brooder. The female will lay unfertilised eggs on a flat stone; she will then take eggs into her mouth and follow the male until he releases sperm. The female will tend to the eggs; feed the fry on newly hatched brine shrimp.
