Where are they from?
The Giant Danio originates from the west coast of Sri Lanka and India.
How many can I keep?
Best kept in groups of 4 or more.
What are the ideal water conditions?
Ideal conditions are slightly acidic to neutral, soft to slightly hard but all the giant danio available today are farm bred and will adapt to a wide range of water parameters.
What do you feed them?
They are omnivores and will eat a variety of foods. Feed a varied diet of frozen, freeze dried and flake foods.
How compatible is it with other fish?
This lively peaceful top swimming fish due to its size is more suited for the larger community aquarium.
How do you breed them?
Males are slimmer and the central blue band continues to the tail. In females it turns upwards. A pair will come together and lay about 10 eggs, this will continue over time and by the end about 300 eggs may have been produced. Remove the pair and the eggs will hatch in aprox 30-40 hours. Feed fry on infusoria.
