Where are they from?
This peaceful barb originates from Southern China from the Green Barb. The Green Barb or China Barb are rarely available. The Gold Barb was developed by selective breeding by hobbyist Thomas Shubert in the 1960’s.
How many can I keep?
Does best in groups of 4 or more.
What are the ideal water conditions?
A water temperature of 18-24°c and a PH of between 6-8.
What do you feed them?
They are omnivores and will eat a variety of foods. Feed a varied diet of frozen, freeze dried and flake foods.
How do you breed them?
The females are more bulky and the colours are duller than the male. When in breeding condition the bellies of the males will turn a vivid orange-red. Set up a breeding tank and place in a well conditioned pair. They are egg scatterers, remove the parents after spawning. Fry will hatch out in approximately 24-48 hours. Feed the fry on infusoria and newly hatched brineshrimp.
