The novelty of this species is seeing the fish kissing, although this is a trial of strength to determine the pecking order and has nothing to do with romance.
How hard are they to keep?
We would class this fish as an easy care level.
What is its maximum size?
In the wild this fish can reach 30cm but is most likely to reach about 8cm.
Where are they from?
In it’s wild green form it originated from Burma, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. The majority of the Kissing Gourami you see today are the pink form developed in Java.
How many can I keep?
Two or three.
What are the ideal water conditions?
This fish is farm bred and will adapt to a wide range of water parameters. Ideal water conditions are soft acidic water, temperature range 22-28c and a PH of 6.5-7.5.
What do you feed them?
They are omnivores and will eat a variety of foods. Feed a varied diet of frozen, freeze dried,algae and flake foods. The Kissing Gourami relish algae and it is important to include green foods in their diet.
How compatible is it with other fish?
A peaceful fish, ideal in the larger community tank.
How do you breed them?
It is impossible to tell the sexes apart. Would be very difficult.
