It is reasonably easy to care for.

What is its maximum size?
12cm.

Where are they from?
A rock dwelling Mauna cichlid. Originates from Southern waters of Lake Malawi.

What are the ideal water conditions?
Ideal water conditions are moderately hard with a temperature of 24-26°c. PH 7.8-8.6.
 
What do you feed them?
This fish is omnivorous but should have a high amount of vegetable in its diet.

How compatible is it with other fish?
The Auratus is fiercely territorial and should be housed with similar aggressive Malawi tank mates.

How do you breed them?
Adult females are a golden colour with black markings and the male is a deep blue/brown colour with yellow markings. The female will lay unfertilised eggs on a flat stone; she will then take eggs into her mouth and follow the male until he releases sperm. The female will tend to the eggs; feed the fry on newly hatched brine shrimp.
