Where are they from?
The Fire Blue Red Empress Cichlid originates from Makanjila Point, Lake Malawi.

What are the ideal water conditions?
Ideal water conditions are moderately hard with a temperature of 24-26°c. PH 7-8.5.

What do you feed them?
Will eat almost any food, offer pellets, frozen food and flake.

How compatible is it with other fish?
Tank mates should be aggressive cichlids of a similar size. A tough species but does not normally instigate fights with other tank mates. As well as the normal rocky areas for Malawi cichlids it also requires open swimming space.

How do you breed them?
Juveniles are a similar pale gray colour; young males will develop a reddish brown colour on the fins, as the males mature they develop the deep red and blue colours. A maternal mouth brooder. The female will lay unfertilised eggs on a flat stone; she will then take eggs into her mouth and follow the male until he releases sperm. The female will tend to the eggs; feed the fry on newly hatched brine shrimp.
