In the wild they have been known to reach up to 35cm although they are unlikely to reach more than 20-25cm in an aquarium.

Where are they from?
The Silver Shark originates from Thailand.

How many can I keep?
The Silver Shark is a shoaling species which does best in groups of 3 or more.

What are the ideal water conditions?
Ideal water conditions are slightly acidic to neutral with a temperature of 20-28°c and a PH of 6-7.5.

What do you feed them?
They are omnivores and will eat a variety of foods. Feed a varied diet of frozen, freeze dried, and flake.

How compatible is it with other fish?
A passive active fish, an ideal addition to a boisterious community aquarium.

How do you breed them?
Although commercially bred in Thailand details are not available.

The bala shark (Balantiocheilus melanopterus) is from Asia. Its shape resembles a shark, hence the name bala shark. It also goes by the common names of silver shark and tri-color shark. It belongs to the family Cyprinidae.
