Cichlids from Lake Tanganyika
Tropheines
All Tropheus are mouth brooders and most are herbivorous, plant and algae
eaters. They are aggressive to their own kind and similar species. Provide
plenty of rocks for hiding places and keep in large numbers, 10 should be the
minimum number. Intentional overcrowding reduces the natural aggression.
Intentional overcrowding will require extra filtration and regular partial
water changes.
Cyphotilapini
These spectacular fish come from deep water. They are predators of small fish.
In the wild they hunt at dusk and early in the morning eating small fish that
sleep at the lake bottom.
Please note juvenile fish quite often have a very different colouration to adult fish and are quite drab. As the fish matures the adult colouration will come through.
