The Upside Down Catfish originates from Zaire.
How many can I keep?
Best in groups of 4 or more.
What are the ideal water conditions?
Ideal water conditions are slightly acidic to slightly alkaline and soft to slightly hard water with a temperature of 22-26°c. PH 6-7.5.
What do you feed them?
Feed a varied diet of live and frozen food and dried food such as catfish pellets.
How compatible is it with other fish?
A peaceful fish, ideal for the community tank.
How do you breed them?
These fish have been bred in captivity. Place a pair in a breeding tank in slightly acidic water (PH 6.5, Temp 26°c) with a sandy substrate and rocks and bogwood made into caves. Condition them with live food. It may take many months before they spawn. When in breeding condition they will dig a pit in the sand, both parents protect the fry. The males are slimmer and smaller and slightly darker.
