Where are they from?
The Yellow Banded Tropheus originates from the rocky waters of Lake Tanganyika. A black fish with a Yellow vertical band the width of the fish.
How many can I keep?
They are aggressive to their own kind and similar species. Provide plenty of rocks for hiding places and keep in large numbers, 10 should be the minimum number. Intentional overcrowding reduces the natural aggression. Intentional overcrowding will require extra filtration and regular partial water changes.

How do you breed them?
Not easy to breed in the aquarium. As with other Tanganyika Cichlids they are mouth brooders, The female will carry eggs for approximately 30 days. After this time the female looks after the young, she will feed providing nourishment for herself and her brood. She will take them into her mouth at night and any time there is danger.
