What is its maximum size?
Up to approximately 45–46 cm in length. It needs a very large aquarium with plenty of open swimming space.
Where is its origin and where is it exported from?
The Naso Tang originates from the Indo-Pacific, including areas around Japan, Indonesia, Australia, Hawaii and French Polynesia. It is commonly exported for the aquarium trade from countries such as Indonesia and the Philippines.
Is it reef compatible?
Yes, generally reef safe. It is usually safe with corals and most invertebrates, although individual fish may behave differently.
– What should I feed it? Feed a varied diet consisting mainly of marine algae and seaweed, including nori, supplemented with spirulina flakes, algae-based pellets and occasional meaty foods such as mysis shrimp. Feed regularly to maintain good health and condition.
How many can I keep?
Best kept singly in most home aquariums because of its large adult size and swimming requirements. Multiple Naso Tangs may be possible in exceptionally large systems, but adequate space and careful introduction are essential.
How compatible is it with other fish?
Generally peaceful and suitable for a large community of compatible marine fish. Avoid keeping it with overly aggressive tankmates or other tangs that may compete for territory. Provide plenty of swimming space.
