What is its maximum size?
Up to approximately 2–3 cm in shell length.
Where is its origin and where is it exported from?
The Bumblebee Snail originates from the Indo-Pacific, including areas around Indonesia, the Philippines, Fiji and other tropical Pacific islands. It is commonly exported for the aquarium trade from countries such as Indonesia and the Philippines.
Is it reef compatible?
With caution. It is generally considered reef compatible, but it is a carnivorous scavenger rather than a dedicated algae eater. It may prey on small worms and other tiny invertebrates, so caution is advised in aquariums containing valuable small invertebrates.
What should I feed it?
Feed a varied diet of meaty foods, including small pieces of shrimp, mysis shrimp, finely chopped seafood and suitable sinking marine foods. It will also scavenge leftover food and organic matter. Do not rely on it to control algae, as it is primarily a carnivore and scavenger.
How many can I keep?
Can be kept in small groups in a suitably sized aquarium, provided there is enough food available. Avoid adding too many, as they may compete for food in smaller tanks.
How compatible is it with other fish?
Generally peaceful towards fish and larger invertebrates. However, it may consume small worms and other tiny invertebrates. Avoid keeping it with animals that prey on snails, such as certain triggerfish, pufferfish and large wrasses.
