What is its maximum size?
Up to approximately 12 cm in length.
Where is its origin and where is it exported from?
The Yellow Wrasse originates from the Indo-Pacific, including areas around Indonesia, the Philippines, the Great Barrier Reef and other western Pacific islands. It is commonly exported for the aquarium trade from countries such as Indonesia and the Philippines.
Is it reef compatible?
Yes, generally reef safe, with caution. It is usually safe with corals, but it may eat small ornamental shrimp, tiny crabs, snails and other small invertebrates. It is particularly useful for controlling certain small pests, including some flatworms and pyramidellid snails.
What should I feed it?
Feed a varied carnivorous diet consisting of frozen mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood and quality marine pellets. Feed small portions several times throughout the day if possible. A varied diet helps maintain its colour and overall health.
How many can I keep?
Best kept singly in most home aquariums. Multiple individuals may sometimes be kept together in a large aquarium, but aggression can occur, particularly between males. Provide a deep, fine sand bed where it can bury itself at night and when frightened.
How compatible is it with other fish?
Generally peaceful and suitable for many marine community aquariums. It can be kept with clownfish, tangs, angelfish, gobies and other compatible fish. Avoid aggressive tankmates that may bully it, and be aware that it may prey on small ornamental crustaceans.
