What is its maximum size?
Up to approximately 7 cm in length.
Where is its origin and where is it exported from?
The Azure Damselfish originates from the western Pacific Ocean, particularly around Indonesia, the Philippines, Papua New Guinea and the Great Barrier Reef. It is commonly exported for the aquarium trade from countries such as Indonesia and the Philippines.
Is it reef compatible?
Yes, generally reef safe. It is usually safe with corals and most invertebrates, making it a popular choice for reef aquariums. However, it can become territorial around its preferred hiding places.
What should I feed it?
Feed a varied omnivorous diet consisting of quality marine flakes, pellets, spirulina, algae-based foods and frozen foods such as mysis shrimp and enriched brine shrimp. Offer small portions regularly to maintain good health and colour.
How many can I keep?
Can be kept singly or in small groups in a suitably sized aquarium. Groups may work well when there is enough swimming space and rockwork, but aggression can occur, especially in smaller tanks.
How compatible is it with other fish?
Generally hardy and less aggressive than some other damselfish, although it can still be territorial. It is suitable for many community aquariums with compatible clownfish, gobies, wrasses and other peaceful marine fish. Avoid very timid tankmates if territorial behaviour becomes a problem.
