How hard are they to keep?
Black Tiger Darios are best suited to aquarists with some experience, as they can be shy and may require careful attention to feeding and water quality.
What is their maximum size?
They typically grow to around 3–4cm in length.
Where do they come from?
Black Tiger Darios originate from India, where they inhabit freshwater streams and other shallow, vegetated waterways.
What are the ideal water conditions?
They prefer clean, well-maintained freshwater with a pH of around 6.5–7.5. Stable water parameters and a well-established aquarium are important for their health.
What do they eat?
Black Tiger Darios are small micropredators and often prefer live or frozen foods, such as baby brine shrimp, daphnia and small bloodworms. Some individuals may accept suitable frozen or prepared foods, but they can be reluctant to eat dry foods.
How compatible are they with other fish?
Black Tiger Darios are generally peaceful but can be shy and territorial towards their own kind, particularly males. They are best kept with other small, peaceful fish that thrive in similar water conditions. Avoid large, boisterous or aggressive tank mates, as well as fast-feeding fish that may outcompete them for food.
