Where are they from?
A peaceful mid-water fish originating from the Mato Grosso region of Brazil. Wild caught fish are difficult to acclimatise and require soft acidic water. But now all the Black Neons available are farm bred and will adapt to a wide range of water paramaeters.
How many can I keep?
Best kept in groups as it is a shoaling fish.
What are the ideal water conditions?
Ideal water conditions are slightly acidic to neutral soft water. Temperature 22-28°c. PH 5.5 – 7.5
What do you feed them?
Black Neon Tetra are omnivores and will eat a variety of foods. Feed a varied diet of frozen, freeze dried and flake foods.
How compatible is it with other fish?
A peaceful community fish. See tank mates.
How do you breed them?
Adult males are slimmer than the females. They require soft acid water with a temperature of 25c. They will scatter their eggs over fine-leaved plants. Eggs hatch in about 30-40 hours. Feed fry on infusoria and newly hatched brine shrimp.
