What is its maximum size?
Up to approximately 4–5 cm in length.
Where is its origin and where is it exported from?
The Dancing Shrimp originates from the Indo-Pacific, including areas around East Africa, the Red Sea, Indonesia, the Philippines and Australia. It is collected for the aquarium trade from tropical regions within its natural range.
Is it reef compatible?
With caution. Dancing Shrimp are opportunistic omnivores and scavengers. They may pick at soft corals, anemones and small invertebrates, particularly when food is limited. They are generally better suited to fish-only aquariums or reef tanks without delicate corals.
What should I feed it?
Feed a varied diet of frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped prawns, marine seafood and suitable sinking pellets. It will also scavenge leftover food and organic matter. Feed small portions regularly to ensure it receives enough nutrition.
How many can I keep?
Best kept singly or in small groups, depending on aquarium size and compatibility. They can be territorial towards their own kind, so provide plenty of hiding places and monitor for aggression.
How compatible is it with other fish?
Generally suitable for aquariums with peaceful, small-to-medium marine fish. Avoid housing it with predatory fish such as lionfish, hawkfish and larger wrasses that may eat shrimp. It may also bother small ornamental invertebrates.
