What is its maximum size?
Up to approximately 30 cm in length.
Where is its origin and where is it exported from?
The Picasso Triggerfish originates from the Indo-Pacific, including the Red Sea, East Africa, Indonesia, the Philippines, Australia and Hawaii. It is commonly exported for the aquarium trade from countries such as Indonesia and the Philippines.
Is it reef compatible?
No, not generally recommended for reef aquariums. It may nip corals and will readily eat ornamental shrimp, crabs, snails and other small invertebrates. It is best suited to a fish-only marine aquarium.
What should I feed it?
Feed a varied carnivorous and omnivorous diet consisting of prawns, mussels, squid, shrimp, krill and other marine seafood. Supplement with quality marine pellets and occasional algae-based foods. Hard-shelled foods can also help wear down its continuously growing teeth.
How many can I keep?
Best kept on its own in most home aquariums because it can be highly territorial. Keeping multiple triggerfish together requires a very large aquarium and careful consideration of compatibility.
How compatible is it with other fish?
The Picasso Triggerfish is semi-aggressive to aggressive, particularly as it matures. It is best kept with larger, robust fish that can tolerate its territorial behaviour. Avoid small, timid fish and most ornamental invertebrates. Provide plenty of swimming space and secure rockwork.
