Where are they from?
The Serpae Tetra originates in slow moving rivers from Paraguay to Brazil, but now all Serpae available are farm bred. A popular tetra due to its rosy red colour and active behaviour.
How many can I keep?
Best kept in groups where they will shoal.
What are the ideal water conditions?
Ideal water conditions are slightly acidic to neutral soft water. Temperature 22-26°c. PH 6 – 7.5
What do you feed them?
Serpae Tetra are omnivores and will eat a variety of foods. Feed a varied diet of frozen, freeze dried and flake foods.
How compatible is it with other fish?
Display fights to establish hierarchy are not uncommon and they will occasionally nip tank mates. This makes them more suitable to a barb community tank. See tank mates.
How do you breed them?
Will breed easily in soft acidic water.Place in a well planted tank, eggs will then be scattered following chasing and circling. Feed fry in infusoria.
