Where is its origin and where is it exported from?
The Striped Damsel originates from the Indo-Pacific, including the Red Sea, East Africa, Australia, Indonesia and the Philippines. It is commonly exported for the aquarium trade from countries such as Indonesia and the Philippines.
Is it reef compatible?
Yes, with caution. It is generally safe with corals and most invertebrates. However, it can become territorial and aggressive, particularly as it matures.
What should I feed it?
Feed a varied omnivorous diet consisting of marine flakes, quality pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp and other small meaty foods. Supplement its diet with algae-based foods to help maintain good health.
How many can I keep?
Can be kept singly or in groups in a suitably sized aquarium. Groups should have plenty of swimming space and hiding places, as aggression can occur between individuals. Monitor closely for bullying, especially in smaller tanks.
How compatible is it with other fish?
The Striped Damsel is a hardy but semi-aggressive and territorial fish. It can be kept with other robust marine fish, but may bully smaller, shy or peaceful tankmates. Provide plenty of rockwork and hiding places, and avoid overcrowding.
