About this fish

What is its maximum size?

Up to approximately 15–17.5 cm in length.

Where is its origin and where is it exported from?

The Fuzzy Dwarf Lionfish originates from the Indo-Pacific, ranging from the Red Sea and eastern coast of Africa across to southern Japan, northern Australia and Samoa. It is commonly exported for the aquarium trade from countries such as Indonesia and the Philippines.

Is it reef compatible?

With caution. It generally leaves corals alone, but it will eat ornamental shrimp, crabs and any small fish that can fit into its mouth.

 What should I feed it?

Feed a varied carnivorous diet of frozen or fresh meaty foods, including mysis shrimp, marine prawns, krill, squid, mussels and small pieces of marine fish. Some individuals may initially need live foods to encourage feeding before being gradually weaned onto frozen foods. Avoid feeding freshwater feeder fish as a staple diet.

 How many can I keep?

Best kept on its own in most home aquariums. However, multiple individuals can sometimes be kept together in a sufficiently large aquarium with plenty of hiding places and careful introduction.

How compatible is it with other fish?

Generally peaceful towards larger fish that it cannot swallow. Suitable tankmates may include larger angelfish, tangs, wrasses and other robust marine fish, provided they are not aggressive or likely to outcompete it for food. Avoid small fish, ornamental shrimp and crabs. Its venomous spines require careful handling.

If it does not arrive alive, you do not pay for it.

Photograph the bag unopened, send it to us within four hours of delivery, and we will put it right with a refund or a replacement.* The health guarantee then covers you for a further ten days once it is in your tank.

*Whether we refund or replace is our decision and depends on the fish and its cost. A replacement may travel with a future order rather than straight away.
